Mapantsula is the first anti-apartheid feature film by,
for and about black South Africans. Filmed in Soweto and scored
to the urban beat of "Township Jive," it tells of a petty hoodlum,
Panic (played by Thomas Mogotlane), caught up in the events of the
student riots in Soweto and his transformation from irresponsible
loner to someone compelled to take a stand. Winner of seven South
African Film Awards but originally banned in that country.
